A little less than an hour drive outside Cape Town - between Paarl and Stellenbosch - you will find Babylonstoren: a completely renovated farmhouse from 1692 in Cape-Holland style with a vineyard. In this South African paradise you can stay overnight, eat in the famous Babel restaurant or scurry through the (vegetable) garden.

Babel, the Babylonstoren restaurant, is a combination of old and new. Where once the cows and sheep were kept you are now in a modern decorated white room with an open kitchen at breakfast, lunch or dinner. You have to take this literally from the garden at the table. The chefs pick herbs, edible flowers and vegetables from the vegetable garden daily.

Thick walls of natural stone, wooden doors and fireplaces

Owner Karen Roos - former editor-in-chief of the South African Elle Decoration - completely renovated the farm. She left wooden doors, fireplaces and thick walls of natural stone and added a spa.

Babylonstoren has 12 cottages that can accommodate 32 guests. The old workers' houses have been completely renovated and have been transformed from inside into luxury accommodations, keeping the original, historic style on the outside.
